Make Way for Pufflings

In early Autumn, wayward Atlantic puffin chicks, or pufflings, attracted by the city lights, crash-land on the streets of Heimaey, Iceland at night. The residents of the town, young and old, rescue the chicks and help them find their way to the sea the following day. The story, written by Cheryl Katz, was originally published as a cover & feature article for the March 2023 issue of Smithsonian magazine. It has since been republished in Brigitte (Germany), The Big Issue (Australia and Japan), Courrier international (France), GEO (France), Ranger Rick, and Reader’s Digest.
