Evenki reindeer herders of Siberia

The Evenkis are an indigenous people of the Russian far north. One of the cornerstones of their culture is reindeer farming. One icy March morning, I photographed a small family of Evenki herders as they drove their reindeer, several hundred strong, across frozen lakes and through the taiga forest to a wooden-fenced corral. Global warming, which is causing heavier snowfalls in Siberia, makes it harder for reindeer to forage during the winter months.
