Antarctic Lava

On the coldest, driest continent on Earth, a team of geologists is studying how rocks are broken down by the cold and ice. Using the well-dated lava flows at Mount Morning, they are forming an estimate of the speed at which the rocks are degraded. Their work has important implications for climate change—using this method they can infer how Antarctica's glaciers have advanced and retreated in the past centuries.
